Kung Fu originated from yoga. In sixth century China, monks were spending long hours meditating, but this impaired their strength and general health. Prince Bodhidharma brought yoga to the Buddhist monks who began to practice it on a daily basis.
Yoga helps release tension in the body, strengthen muscles and allows for greater flexibility of the body. Though many people see martial artists as being strong with powerful attacks, most of the best methods of martial arts come from a relaxed, calm body and state of mind. Pairing yoga with martial arts assists not only one’s physical life and the arts themselves, but one’s spiritual mindset as well.
